MISSION

Cracker Barrel Foundation seeks to strengthen and preserve our community by supporting programs in the areas of education, human services, cultural affairs and the environment. Special consideration is given to programs that address children, youth and family issues, and emphasize traditional values such as hard work, education and self-reliance.

 

EDUCATION

 

We feel that with the appropriate educational opportunities, students will be empowered with the necessary skills to become contributing citizens in our communities.

Our focus is on programs that:

  • Strengthen higher education and increase its availability
  • Increase adult literacy
  • Improve the quality of education

 HUMAN SERVICES

 

There are basic human needs that must be met to develop responsible, self-reliant citizens in our communities.

Our focus is on programs that:

  • Enable individuals to become self-sufficient
  • Address child and family issues

 CULTURAL & ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

 

The foundation believes in the importance of preserving and communicating our natural and cultural heritage.

Our focus is on programs that:

  • Encourage environmental education
  • Preserve and establish historic monuments, natural sites, and parks
  • Provide arts education

 GIVING GUIDELINES

We do not consider grants for:

  • Organizations that are not public charitable organizations qualifying under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code
  • Individuals or their projects
  • Fundraising activities such as benefits, charitable dinners or sporting events
  • Religious, political, fraternal, athletic, or veterans organizations
  • Organizations with principal impact outside the United States

Proposals are accepted and reviewed throughout the year. Decisions are made quarterly. It is recommended that you wait twelve months between submitting proposals for funding, regardless of their approval status. Unfortunately, we are unable to fund every quality program or organization for which we receive requests. Please understanding that this is a reflection of limited available resources, and not upon the worthiness of the organization.

 HOW TO APPLY FOR FUNDING

Cracker Barrel Foundation uses no standard application form. It is requested that proposals be concise and include the following:

  • Name, address and description of organization
  • Past accomplishments of the organization
  • Objectives of organization and specific project for which funding is requested, if applicable
  • Geographic area served by organization
  • History of previous support from Cracker Barrel Foundation
  • Exact dollar amount of request
  • Plan for evaluating results of project
  • What percentage of total budget is the request?

Attachment should include:

  • IRS letter of determination of section 501(c)(3) tax exemption status
  • Latest income and expense statement
  • Names and affiliations of those serving on your board of directors
  • Names and qualifications of employees, as well as numbers of volunteers
  • Other sources of income and amount contributed by each
  • Other organizations you are approaching for funding
  • A few current relevant articles or reviews about the organization, if available
